SAPS III
Simplified Acute Physiology Score 3
The SAPS 3 score (Simplified Acute Physiology Score 3) is an index developed to predict hospital mortality on ICU admission. The score was developed from a retrospective study of 16,784 patients, aiming to create a model to assess disease severity and predict vital status at hospital discharge based on data from ICU admission. The study was published in 2006 and is a derivative of the SAPS 2 from 1993. The latter was developed from a study with 13,152 patients, also aiming to develop a model to update and validate a new acute physiology score for hospital mortality probability, updating the SAPS from 1984.
